ADHD in the Family? Check for Sleep Apnea

ADHD is correlated with a variety of sleep problems:
Daytime sleepiness - Is higher in children with ADHD
Sleep Disordered Breathing (eg Obstructive Apnea) - This is in as many as 50% of children with ADHD
Restless legs Syndrome - Also very common in children with ADHD

Sleep deprivation is a big problem in America. According to this study in the National Institutes of Health treating the sleep problems effectively can eliminate attention and hyperactivity issues in some children.

Got Apnea? Treat it!

According to the Journal of Inflammation, as cited in the National Institutes of Health, treating your sleep apnea with Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) reduces inflammation. The study analyzed the collective results of 24 separated studies involving over 1,000 patients.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is associated with type-II diabetes and heart disease, though scientists still don't know whether OSA places people at greater risk for these maladies or vice versa.

Another interesting fact? Most people with OSA don't know they have it. If you are waking up tired, experience a foggy headache, and have a larger neck size (17.5" to 18" or larger), you fit the profile; you might want to talk about it with your doctor.
